What Are Schemas?
"Schemas" are memories, emotions, associations and beliefs often rooted in childhood experiences (bullying by peers, critical parents, divorce, death of a parent, alcoholic families) that can influence how you think, feel and relate to others. For example, a boy who was teased by peers may start to feel like he is defective or not good enough, and, as an adult, he might develop a pattern of dating men or women who are critical of him and end up feeling worse about himself.
